When lighting a scented candle for the first time, correct operation can extend the life of the candle, ensure safety, and enhance the user experience. So, what should you pay attention to when lighting a scented candle for the first time? Here are the key things to pay attention to:

1. Make sure to burn it thoroughly for the first time

- Why it is important: Candles have a "burning memory", and insufficient first-time burning time will lead to a "tunnel effect" later (the candle only burns in the middle, leaving hanging walls around).

- What to do: Make sure the first burn is until the surface of the candle is completely melted (forming a uniform wax pool), which usually takes 1-2 hours (the specific time depends on the size of the candle). Small candles may take 30 minutes, and large candles may take longer.

2. Trim the candle wick

- Length control: Trim the candle wick to 5-7 mm (about 1/4 inch) before lighting. Too long will result in too large a flame and more black smoke; too short may be difficult to light.

- Tools: Use candle wick cutters or nail clippers to avoid debris left by ordinary scissors.

3. Choose the right environment

- Shelter from the wind: Stay away from windows, fans or vents to avoid swaying flames or uneven burning.

- Heat-resistant flat surface: Place on a tray or table made of fireproof material, and avoid direct contact with flammable materials such as wood and plastic.

4. Safety precautions

- Keep away from flammable objects: At least 30 cm away from curtains, books, etc.

- Do not leave unattended: Do not leave the room when burning, especially when there are children or pets.

- Avoid moving: The wax liquid is hot during burning, and moving may cause burns or tipping.

5. Tips for subsequent use

- Trim the candle wick every time: Trim before each lighting to reduce carbon accumulation and black smoke.

- Avoid long-term burning: It is not recommended to burn for more than 4 hours at a time, otherwise the wax pool will overheat and may affect the fragrance or damage the container.

- Extinguishing method: Use a candle cover or candle extinguisher (to avoid blowing out smoke), or use a metal spoon to gently press the candle wick to dip it into the wax liquid and then lift it.

6. Other details

- Container candle: If it is a glass/ceramic container, there may be a slight wax residue on the edge after the first burning, which is normal, and it will gradually melt after subsequent burning.

- Storage conditions: Keep the candle in a cool and dry place when not in use, and avoid direct sunlight that may cause fading or volatilization of the fragrance.

In short, through the above steps, not only can you ensure safety, but also make the scented candle burn evenly, release the best fragrance, and extend its service life. Enjoy your aromatherapy time!
