With the development of the times, scented candles are now more and more needed by the  public. They can create an atmosphere and soothe the body and mind, but improper use may pose safety hazards or affect the effect. So how to use scented candles correctly? The following are the correct usage methods and precautions:

Usage steps

1. First lighting

- The first burning should last for 2-3 hours until the surface of the candle is completely melted to form a flat wax pool (avoid the formation of memory circles).

- Short-term burning will cause the middle of the candle to be concave, and unburned wax will remain on the edge.

2. Trimming the candle wick

- Cut the candle wick to 5-7 mm before each lighting (too long will easily produce black smoke and too large flames).

- Use special candle wick cutters or small scissors to prevent the cut candle wick fragments from falling into the wax.

3. Lighting and extinguishing

- Lighting: Use a long-handled lighter or match to avoid burns.

- Extinguish: Cover the candle with a candle cover or dip the candle wick into the wax oil and then lift it up (reduce smoke), do not blow with your mouth (easy to splash wax oil).

4. Burning time control

- Single burning does not exceed 4 hours, avoid overheating of wax oil or overheating of the container.

- Stop using when the thickness of the remaining wax layer is less than 1 cm to prevent high temperature damage to the container.

Safety precautions

- Keep away from flammable objects: Place at least 30 cm away from curtains and paper, and do not place it in the vents (such as windows and fans).

- Use stable containers: Choose heat-resistant glass/ceramic candle cups, avoid flammable containers such as plastic and wood.

- Extinguish when unattended: Be sure to extinguish the candle before leaving the room or going to bed.

- Pet and child safety: Place it in a place where pets and children cannot touch it to avoid tipping over or scalding.

Improve the aromatherapy effect

- Space matching: Choose single-wick candles for small spaces (10㎡), and choose multi-wick or high-concentration fragrance for large spaces (more than 20㎡).

- Avoid mixing fragrances: Burning different fragrances at the same time may cause the fragrance to mix, so it is recommended to use them at intervals.

- Storage method: Cover the lid tightly when not in use, and avoid light and heat (high temperature can easily volatilize the fragrance).

Common problem handling

- Uneven wax pool: Wrap the edge of the candle with tin foil to help even heating.

- Candle wick offset: Use a tool to push the candle wick back to the center during burning, and fix it after cooling.

- Black smoke problem: Check whether the candle wick is too long or the burning environment is poorly ventilated.

Correct use of scented candles can extend the service life while ensuring safety. While enjoying the fragrance, be sure to remember the principle of "people away from the fire"!
