Whether it is cup candles or artistic candles, they can generally burn for a long time and the fragrance is also long-lasting.
But how should we deal with the unburned and no longer used cup aromatherapy candles?
We can follow the steps below to operate safely and environmentally friendly, and at the same time make full use of the remaining wax
materials:
1. Safety preparation
- Make sure the candle is completely cooled: avoid burns and let it stand until the wax solidifies.
- Cleaning tools: prepare spoons, knives, tweezers (optional), hot towels or hair dryers.
2. Remove the remaining wax blocks
- Heating method (recommended):
- Use hot air from a hair dryer to heat the wall of the cup for about 1-2 minutes to melt the edge of the wax.
- Invert the cup and gently push out the softened wax block (put a piece of paper to catch it).
- Freezing method:
- Put the cup in the refrigerator and freeze it for 1 hour. After the wax shrinks, it is easier to take out the whole piece.
- Manual digging:
- Use a metal spoon or a blunt knife to pry the wax block loose along the edge, and be careful to avoid scratching the cup body.
3. Treat the wax wick
Retain the wax wick: If the wax wick is long and clean, you can cut it off for later use (such as making a new candle).
- Remove the base: The metal base is usually stuck to the bottom of the cup, use tweezers or tape to stick it out; if it is difficult to remove, you can keep it.
4. Clean the cup
- Remaining wax stains:
- Pour hot water to melt the remaining wax layer, and then wipe it with a paper towel (the wax will float on the water surface).
- Stubborn oil stains can be wiped with detergent or alcohol.
- Label treatment: After tearing off the label, use olive oil or wind oil to remove the glue marks.
5. Reuse of remaining wax
- Make new candles:
- Chop the wax block into pieces, mix it with new wax or essential oil, pour it into a container, insert the wax wick and re-solidify it.
- Wax flakes or wax:
- After melting, pour it into a mold to make decorative wax flakes or wax seals.
- Other uses:
- As a lubricant (drawer rails, scissors axis).
- Wrap in paper to make a simple fire starter (for outdoor use).
6. Secondary use of the cup body
- Storage container: store makeup brushes, jewelry, stationery, etc.
- Mini potted plants: drill holes in the bottom and plant succulents or small plants.
- DIY decoration: graffiti or stickers are transformed into pen holders and candlesticks.
Precautions:
- Avoid pouring liquid wax directly into the sewer, which may clog the pipe.
- Stay away from open flames when heating to avoid overheating and smoke.
- Glass/ceramic cups are recyclable, and metal parts need to be discarded separately.
Through the above methods, we can not only reduce waste, but also give new uses to
scented candles, so that one thing can be used for multiple purposes.
